THE PHILOSOPHY
4. Perfect match of mare and stallion
It is a simple fact, that even after having selected top mares and top stallions,
certain lines are producing great results together, others not. So it is essential
to watch the results everywhere and to find the perfect match for each top mare
independent from the personal preference for a special stallion! The high developed
knowledge and experience of lineage-combinations in the Warmblood breeding should
be used as much as possible.
5. Long term judgement to select only the best mares for breeding
At Okanagan Show Jumping Stables there is no reason to put too much pressure
on young horses. As they are produced for future top level sport, they get raised
free from pressure till they are mature enough. Our mares usually get bred with
three years and start working after the first foal is weaned, usually with 4
½ years. After they show their potential under the saddle in an adequate time
of schooling, meanwhile the first foal can be judged fairly exactly as well.
Only if the mare's sport career and the development of the foal are both absolutely
convincing, the mare goes back into breeding.
